As an Editor or Admin in your organization, you can modify connections that have already been set up. However, be cautious when making changes to connections currently used by active data products in the External Data Platform, as this may have downstream effects.
⚠️ Important: Editing a connection that serves as a source or destination for any active data products could impact the entire data pipeline. Review your changes carefully to avoid unintended downstream consequences.
Steps to edit an existing connection
To edit an existing connection - source or destination - complete these steps:
Access the Connection Settings
Navigate to the Connection Settings table in your admin interface.
Locate the connection you want to modify and click the … actions icon at the end of the row.
Open the Edit menu: Select Edit from the context menu.
Review the Update Connection modal: A modal will appear to remind you that changes to this connection may affect downstream data products. If you’re sure about the changes, click Update connection to proceed or Cancel to return to the settings table.
Edit connection details: The Edit Connection panel will open, displaying the current information of the selected source or destination connection. Note that sensitive fields like passwords or private keys will be masked for security purposes.
Make your changes: Modify the connection details as needed. Be sure to double-check your updates to avoid disrupting active data products.
Save your changes: Once you’ve made your updates, click Save to apply the changes.
By following these steps, you can safely modify existing connections while minimizing the risk of downstream effects. Always ensure that changes are necessary and reviewed thoroughly to avoid disruptions.
